The Society is committed to your safety. While we conduct training courses for all volunteers, your safety around and onboard railroad equipment is extremely important.
Please keep the following safety rules in mind while at our museum site, on our trains, or around railroad operations of any kind, anywhere.
On the train:
-Board and leave only the attended doors or exits with assisting crew members present
-Keep your head and arms within the train at all times
-Do not litter the right-of-way with cigarettes, garbage, or other debris
-Wear eye protection in open window cars, while standing in vestibules, or while watching locomotive crew perform their duties
On the ground:
-Do not step on rails when crossing tracks
-Stay off signals and parked equipment
-Never walk between or under railroad cars or equipment
-Stay at least twenty-five feet from either side of the tracks, except when boarding
-Do not place coins or other objects on rails
-Keep a sharp eye out for other trains at any time, on any track, going in any direction
In your vehicle:
-Stop, look, and listen at all railroad crossings
-Follow all state and federal highway laws
-Do not endanger yourself or others in an attempt to follow or photograph a train
At all times:
-Keep children within reach
-Walk, don’t run
-Be mindful of your surroundings and considerate of others
During certain operations or excursions, we will be operating on private railroad property. The rails on this property are in use daily and are patrolled by law enforcement. Your cooperation is truly appreciated and will ensure your safety and the prevalence of historical rail operation for years to come.
