In a move to prepare Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive no. 765 for high speed mainline passenger excursion service around the midwest, the FWRHS is converting the journal bearing trucks of the locomotive tender to modern roller bearing wheel sets. Roller bearing wheels are more reliable and efficient and are standard in the railroad industry today.
This important upgrade will increase the scope of our operations with the locomotive and prepare it for returning to the mainline, high speed excursion service it has become famous for.
The cost of this work is estimated to run over $60,000 and puts the organization on an impending deadline to raise adequate funds and prepare the locomotive for public exhibition in 2010.

Updates on the fundraising and roller bearing process will be forthcoming as work progresses.
